Technology

DC vs AC — Not the same charge

Direct current charging bypasses the vehicle's converter, delivering power directly where it's needed. An E-Flow CCS2 charger charges your car much faster than a conventional AC charger.

Home systems

high power at 230Vac

AC Charging
1.5-7.4 kW

Slow conventional charging

  • AC→DC conversion inside the vehicle
  • Losses from double conversion
  • 4-8 hours for a full charge
  • Limited by the vehicle's OBC
DC Charging · E-Flow
7-14 kW

Direct fast charging

  • Direct current straight to the battery
  • Maximum energy efficiency
  • 0-80% in under 45 minutes
  • Direct communication with the BMS

Industrial systems

high power at 380Vac

AC Charging
3-22 kW

Slow conventional charging

  • AC→DC conversion inside the vehicle
  • Losses from double conversion
  • 4-8 hours for a full charge
  • Limited by the vehicle's OBC
DC Charging · E-Flow
40-120 kW

Direct fast charging

  • Direct current straight to the battery
  • Maximum energy efficiency
  • 0-80% in under 45 minutes
  • Direct communication with the BMS

Ultra-fast charging

Delivers energy directly to the battery with no internal conversion. Up to 10× faster than AC.

Under 45 minutes

From 0 to 80% charge in under 45 minutes for most compatible vehicles.

Higher efficiency

Lower energy losses by removing the vehicle's internal AC/DC converter from the equation.

FAQ

Everything about fast DC charging

What's the difference between AC charging and DC charging?

AC charging passes through the vehicle's internal converter, which limits its speed. DC charging delivers direct current straight to the battery, skipping that conversion and achieving much shorter charging times.

What is the CCS2 connector?

CCS2 is the European charging standard that combines AC and DC charging in a single connector, with direct communication with the vehicle's BMS for fast, safe charging.

How long does it take to charge an electric vehicle?

With an E-Flow fast DC charger, most compatible vehicles go from 0% to 80% in under 45 minutes, depending on the power of the charger and the vehicle.

What fast DC charging power levels does E-Flow manufacture?

We manufacture DC chargers from 7 kW to 14 kW for high-power domestic use, and from 40 kW to 120 kW for industrial and fleet use.

Which charger do I need for my electric car?

Practically all electric cars sold in Europe come with a CCS2 connector, so an E-Flow CCS2 electric car charger is compatible with the vast majority of brands and models.
